El Instituto de Ecología, A.C. (INECOL) invita a las personas interesadas de México y del resto del mundo a participar en la Convocatoria para ocupar un puesto de investigador de elevada calidad. Las personas candidatas deberán mostrar un perfil compatible y congruente con la línea que se describe abajo. La revisión de las solicitudes comenzará inmediatamente y continuará hasta que las/os candidatas/os idóneas/os hayan sido identificadas/os y se cierra la convocatoria. La persona elegida se incorporará al grupo de trabajo de la Red de Biodiversidad y Sistemática del INECOL, sede en Xalapa, Veracruz, México.  

El INECOL es un Centro Público de Investigación financiado por el gobierno federal de México y coordinado por el Consejo Nacional de Humanidades Ciencias y Tecnologías (CONAHCYT), que realiza investigación y formación de estudiantes en ecología y disciplinas relacionadas (www.inecol.mx). El INECOL tiene su sede central en los municipios de Xalapa y Coatepec, Veracruz, y un Centro Regional en Pátzcuaro, Michoacán. Además, cuenta con tres estaciones de campo: 1) un ecosistema tropical/costero en La Mancha, Veracruz, 2) un bosque de pino en La Michilía y 3) una región desértica en Mapimí; estas dos últimas en Durango. También cuenta con el Jardín Botánico Francisco Javier Clavijero (8 ha) y el Santuario del Bosque de Niebla (30 ha) en Xalapa. Actualmente cuenta con 130 científicos investigadores de tiempo completo, 107 técnicos académicos, 87 administrativos, personal de apoyo, jardinería y servicios generales, más de 100 estudiantes de posgrado y más de 100 colaboradores financiados por proyectos externos. La vida académica del INECOL está organizada en una unidad especializada que presta servicios a la sociedad en temas ambientales y de aprovechamiento sustentable de los recursos naturales más once Redes Académicas (Departamentos): Ambiente y Sustentabilidad, Biodiversidad y Sistemática, Biología Evolutiva, Biología y Conservación de Vertebrados, Diversidad Biológica del Occidente Mexicano, Ecoetología, Ecología Funcional, Estudios Moleculares Avanzados, Interacciones Multitróficas, Manejo Biorracional de Plagas y Vectores, y Manejo Biotecnológico de Recursos. INVESTIGADOR EN: DIVERSIDAD Y SISTEMÁTICA DE PLANTAS, PREFERENTEMENTE CON ESPECIALIDAD EN BRIOFITAS Y/O HELECHOS

UN PUESTO DISPONIBLE

Título del Puesto: Investigador Titular A, Perfil I del Estatuto del Personal Académico.

Características del puesto: Tiempo completo por 12 meses. El nombramiento será renovable anualmente en función del rendimiento y desempeño académico. El desempeño de la persona contratada será evaluado anualmente, tanto por su jefe inmediato, como por el cuerpo académico de adscripción y por las autoridades del INECOL, con base en el programa de trabajo y plan de actividades acordado al inicio de su contratación. Al término de tres años consecutivos de trabajo, la persona podrá solicitar su definitividad siguiendo los lineamientos del Estatuto del Personal Académico (EPA disponible en línea: http://normateca.inecol.edu.mx/normateca/) y disposiciones administrativas vigentes. Se espera que la persona contratada, además de cumplir con las expectativas académicas del puesto, demuestre la capacidad de integrarse de manera productiva, armónica y empática con los integrantes del área de adscripción.

Descripción general: Botánico sistemático con formación y experiencia en estudios basados en análisis filogenéticos (moleculares y/o morfológicos), pero también con el conocimiento para desarrollar inventarios y revisiones taxonómicas. Así como tener disposición para el trabajo en equipo y con buena comunicación. 

La persona seleccionada trabajará en la Red de Biodiversidad y Sistemática para realizar investigación en: 

1. Sistemática y diversidad de plantas, de preferencia en diferentes grupos de briofitas y/o helechos.

2. Taxonomía de los grupos de plantas referidos en el punto anterior. 

Responsabilidades

1. Desarrollar investigación original y publicar los resultados generados a partir de la misma de acuerdo con lo establecido en el Estatuto del Personal Académico. Respetando absolutamente la libertad de investigación, la persona que ocupe la plaza deberá destinar su tiempo a los temas de investigación para los cuales fue contratada.

2. Contribuir en la curación e incremento del acervo de los grupos de plantas mencionados bajo resguardo en las colecciones del INECOL, particularmente las del herbario XAL.

3. Formular y liderar proyectos de investigación para obtener recursos, tanto para financiar la propia investigación como para contribuir al equipamiento y desarrollo del área de adscripción y el instituto.

4. Participar en la formación de estudiantes en los programas de Maestría y Doctorado del INECOL mediante la impartición de cursos y dirección de tesis. Asimismo, involucrarse en la formación de estudiantes de licenciatura, servicio social y prácticas profesionales de diferentes instituciones de educación superior con las que el Instituto tenga convenios de colaboración. De particular interés será participar en las clases de posgrado en las fortalezas de la Red de Biodiversidad y Sistemática con la posibilidad de proponer cursos innovadores en el ámbito de las investigaciones de la red de adscripción.

5. Participar en actividades de divulgación y difusión de la ciencia del INECOL. 

6. Colaborar con el grupo de investigadores del área botánica de su red de adscripción, con otros investigadores dentro y fuera de la red, así como de otras instituciones. 

7. Apoyar y participar en el proyecto institucional e-Flora de México 

Requisitos

1. Doctorado en Biodiversidad y/o Sistemática Vegetal o área afín. 

2. Al menos una estancia postdoctoral, igual o mayor a seis meses, en la misma línea académica, en alguna institución nacional o internacional, que no sea en donde obtuvo el doctorado.

3. Autoría de al menos cinco publicaciones científicas recientes (al menos dos como primer autor o autor de correspondencia), en revistas científicas del área botánica o sistemática/evolutiva, indizadas de alta calidad.

4. Habilidades comprobadas para escribir solicitudes de becas y proyectos.

5. Experiencia en docencia a nivel posgrado y/o licenciatura (ideal más no definitorio).

6. Haber dirigido al menos una tesis de licenciatura o posgrado.

7. Pertenencia al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI), o contar con los requisitos para incorporarse a corto plazo.

8. Se dará preferencia a aquellos candidatos con logros sobresalientes de investigación durante sus estudios doctorales u otros.

9. Capacidad y voluntad de trabajar con el sector privado y agencias gubernamentales para lograr vincularse con ellos y gestionar apoyos. 

10. Experiencia de vida y trabajo en Latinoamérica (deseable, pero no esencial).

11. Conocimiento de español e inglés.

12. Habilidades, disposición y capacidad de contribuir al trabajo en equipos interdisciplinarios.

CALL TO OCCUPY A RESEARCH POSITION IN THE BIODIVERSITY AND SYSTEMATICS ACADEMIC NETWORK

The Instituto de Ecología, A.C. (INECOL) invites interested people from Mexico and the rest of the world to participate in the call to occupy a high-quality research position. Candidates must have an academic profile that is compatible and consistent with the one described below. Reception and review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until suitable candidates have been identified. The person appointed to occupy the position will join the Biodiversity and Systematics Academic Network of at INECOL's headquarters in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. 

INECOL is a Public Research Center funded by Mexico's Federal Government and coordinated by the National Council of Humanities, Sciences, and Technologies (CONAHCyT), which conducts research and training of students in ecology and related disciplines (www.inecol.mx). INECOL has its headquarters in the municipalities of Xalapa and Coatepec, Veracruz, and a Regional Center in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán. Additionally, it has three field stations in: 1) a tropical/coastal ecosystem in La Mancha, Veracruz, 2) a pine forest in La Michilía, and 3) a desert region in Mapimí; these last two in the state of Durango. It also has the Francisco Javier Clavijero Botanical Garden (8 ha) and the Cloud Forest Sanctuary (30 ha) in Xalapa. RESEARCHER IN: DIVERSITY AND SYSTEMATICS OF PLANTS, PREFERABLY WITH SPECIALITY ON BRIOPHYTES AND/OR PTERIDOPHYTES 

A POSITION AVAIBLE

Job Title: Titular Researcher “A”, profile I according to the Statute of the Academic Staff (EPA, for his acronym in Spanish; available online at http://normateca.inecol.edu.mx/normateca/).

Job characteristics: Full time for 12 months. The appointment will be renewable annually based on academic performance and achievements. Performance of the hired person will be evaluated annually, both by his immediate boss, as well as by her/his academic peers in the network and INECOL authorities, based on her/his work and a yearly work plan agreed upon the beginning of her/his appointment. After a working period of three consecutive years, the person may request the tenure for the position, following the guidelines of the Statute of the Academic Staff  and current administrative provisions. It is expected that the hired person, in addition to fulfill the academic goals of the position, demonstrates the ability to integrate in a productive, harmonious, and sympathetic way with members of the assigned academic area.

General description: A systematic botanist with experience in phylogenetic studies based on morphology and/or molecular data; also, with knowledge to elaborate floristic inventories and taxonomic revisions. The person needs to have disposition to do teamwork, communication skills, and time organizing abilities.

The selected person will work in the Biodiversity and Systematics Academic Network conducting research on:

1. Systematics and diversity of plants, particularly on different groups of bryophytes and/or pteridophytes.

2. Taxonomy of the plant groups mentioned above.

Responsibilities

1. Develop original research and publish the results in accordance with the provisions of the Statute of the Academic Staff. Respecting the freedom of research, the person occupying the position must dedicate her/his time to conduct research on the topics for which she/he had been hired.

2. Contribute to the curation and of the expansion of the bryophyte and pteridophyte collections at the institute’s herbarium (XAL).

3. Formulate and lead research projects to obtain funds, both to finance the research itself and to contribute to the equipping and development of the affiliation area and the institute in general.

4. Participate in tutoring students in INECOL’s Master’s and Doctorate programs by teaching courses and thesis supervision. Also, to get involved in the training of undergraduate students from different higher education institutions with which the Institute has collaboration agreements, supervising social service and professional practices. Of particular interest will be to teach courses on topics important to the Biodiversity and Systematics Network, with the possibility of proposing innovative courses in the field of research of the academic network.  

5. Participate in educational and public outreach activities organized by INECOL.

6. Collaborate with other researchers of her/his area of expertise (botany), affiliation network, and from other academic networks within and outside the institution.

7. Participate in the institutional project "e-Flora de México"

Requirements 

1. Doctorate in plant biodiversity and/or systematics, or a related area 

2. Proof of postdoctoral stay in the same field of research, carried out for at least six months at a national or international institution other than the one from which the doctorate degree was obtained.

3. Authorship of at least five recent scientific publications (at least two as first or corresponding author), in high-quality indexed scientific journals in the botany, systematics, and/or evolutionary biology field.

4. Proven skills in writing grant and project proposals.

5. Teaching experience at the graduate and/or undergraduate level (ideal but non-defining).

6. Direction of at least one graduate or undergraduate thesis. 

7. Be a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI, for the acronym in Spanish), or have the requirements to incorporate to it in short term 

8. Preference will be given to candidates with outstanding research achievements during their doctoral studies.

9. Ability and willingness to work with the private sector and government agencies to establish links with them and manage various kinds of financing.

10. Experience in living and working in Latin America (desirable, but not essential).

11. Proficiency in Spanish and English

12. Skills, disposition, and ability to contribute to the work of interdisciplinary teams.

13. Commitment to scientific ethics and integrity.
